The Institute is China’s research organization for public welfare on land surface resources, environment and regional sustainable development. As a think tanks and talent pools on regional development, resources utilization and ecological construction, the Institute currently gives high priority to research focused on land surface systems, people-environment interaction, ecological networks, geo-information sciences, natural resources sciences, and agricultural policies.
This emphasis is manifested in the seven research divisions of the Institute: 1) Studies on Physical Geography and Global Change; 2) Studies on Human Geography and Regional Development 3) Studies on Natural Resources and Environmental Security; 4) Studies on Geo-information Mechanism and System Simulation; 5) Studies on Land Surface Water Cycle and Water Security; 6) Studies on Ecosystem Network Observation and Modeling;7)Studies on Agricultural and Rural Development Policy.
