Biography:
Yu Yang is Professor of Energy Geography at the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research (IGSNRR), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS). He is the deputy director of the Department of Economic Geography and Regional Development of the Key Laboratory of Regional Sustainable Development Modeling, CAS. He received his PhD in Human Geography from CAS in 2013 and visited the National Center for Geographic Information and Analysis (NCGIA) of the University at Buffalo - SUNY in 2014.
His research interests cover broad areas of global energy geographies and national energy security, energy transition and low-carbon development, as well as economic geography and regional development. He has published more than 130 articles in leading journals, including: Science (Letter), Energy, Applied Geography, Geographical Review, Renewable & Sustainable Energy Reviews, Energy Policy, among others. He is a principle investigator of an Excellent Young Scientists Fund of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) and a member of the Youth Innovation Promotion Association of Chinese Academy of Sciences.
He wrote more than 30 consulting reports in the fields of national energy security, regional sustainable development, urbanization and industrial planning, which were approved by Chinese leaders or adopted by the central government. He has also completed more than 10 planning projects in national central cities, state-level new areas, new urbanization, industrial transformation and other fields, which have been approved and implemented by the State Council, the National Development and Reform Commission or provincial governments. He won the 2021 Science and Technology Award of the Geographical Society of China (GSC) - Youth Science and Technology Award.
