The President of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences Leads a Delegation to IGSNRR
On October 31, 2025, at the invitation of the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research (IGSNRR) of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the International Scientists Union of the Belt and Road, Academician Demberel Sodnomsambuu, President of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences (MAS) led a delegation from the Academy on a visit to IGSNRR.
The two sides jointly organized a cooperation and exchange event on ecological environment and green development. Over 50 participants attended the meeting, from IGSNRR, China Agricultural University, the Inner Mongolia Natural Resources Society, and Inner Mongolia Normal University. Dong Suocheng, leading professor of IGSNRR, Chairman of the International Scientists Union of the Belt and Road presided over the welcoming ceremony.
Prof. SUN Fubao, Director of IGSNRR, said that IGSNRR and the Institute of Geography and Geoecology (IGG) of the MAS have maintained close collaboration, and achieved significant accomplishments in the fields of resource, environment and sustainable development on Mongolian Plateau over the past three decades and China-Mongolia-Russia Economic Corridor.
He expressed that the geographical and resource scientists would make more efforts advancing the bilateral cooperation. On behalf of IGSNRR, he presented the serial books on the China-Mongolia-Russia Economic Corridor and the Mongolian Plateau to the president of the MAS.
Prof. ZHOU Chenghu, academician of CAS, former vice president of the International Geographical Union addressed that Mongolian Plateau is a crucial geographical unit, especially under global climate change impacts intensifying.
He hoped that Chinese and Mongolian scientists would collaborate using new technologies like 3S, big data, and artificial intelligence to enhance research on environmental changes and sustainable development in the region.
Academician Demberel Sodnomsambuu affirmed that the MAS would continue supporting in-depth cooperation between scientists from both countries, ensuring research outcomes in resource, environment and sustainable development contribute to shared prosperity.
Prof. DONG delivered a keynote report titled “Progress in China-Mongolia Joint Scientific Expeditions and Green Development Modes”, outlining two decades of research advancements in field investigation and ecological risk assessment and green development modes along the China-Mongolia-Russia Economic Corridor and the Mongolian Plateau. He proposed jointly building a Green Great Wall to address ecological risks and ecological security shelter to reach sustainable green development.
Chairman of the Mongolian Geographical Society, leading professor Battogtokh Dorjgotov of IGG delivered a report titled “Global Perspectives on Science and Technological Innovation: China-Mongolia Scientific and Technological Cooperation”, reviewing major collaborations and achievements in science and technology between the two countries since 1990. He anticipates the continued development of bilateral cooperation in research projects, scientific platforms, and personnel exchanges.
Following in-depth discussions, both sides reached a consensus on deepening cooperation in areas of international cooperation platforms, field station construction, desertification control, climate change response, natural resource cooperation, green economic development of ecological animal husbandry and eco-tourism, regional economic integration, as well as talent cultivation and academic exchanges.
