A Book: Atlas of Natural Resources and Green Development of China–Pakistan Economic Corridor Issued
The book: Atlas of Natural Resources and Green Development of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor was jointly compiled by Professor SHEN Lei, Dr. ZHONG Shuai and LI Delong of the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Dr. Bushra Khalid. It was published by Hubei Science and Technology Press in May 2025.
The authors systematically employ various analytical techniques and visualization methods, including geographic element analysis, remote sensing image analysis, ecosystem service assessment, green development potential analysis, and comprehensive natural resource management zoning. Combined with field investigations, the Atlas presents multiple elements of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), such as topography, landforms, vegetation, geological structure, ecosystems, natural disasters, natural resource characteristics, and green development potential.
The Atlas is divided into six sections. The first introduces the location, physiogeographic conditions, geological and tectonic conditions, ecosystem conditions, natural disasters, as well as the status of environmental and green development in Pakistan through conventional survey data and remote sensing images. The second section, based on remote sensing images, shows the potential and utilization status of various resources, including water, land, forest, grassland, energy, and minerals.
The third section introduces the natural resources and geographical features of Pakistan at a subregion level, showcasing Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Sindh, Northern Areas, Azad Kashmir, and Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA), as well as Kashgar in China. In the fourth section, the Atlas presents an overview of major cities in Pakistan and China.
In addition, SHEN’s team proposes a comprehensive evaluation index system for evaluation and zoning analysis of natural resources and green development potential of the CPEC. The last has the editing details of the Atlas.
