Steering Committee Meeting of Blueprint of Coastal Wetland Conservation and Management in China Held in Beijing

On 16 March 2015, the Steering Committee Meeting of Blueprint of Coastal Wetland Conservation and Management in China (Blueprint Project) was successfully held jointly by the Paulson Institute and the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IGSNRR, CAS) in Beijing.

The meeting was chaired by Academician CHEN Yiyu, with more than 30 participants including committee members, project members and project funders.

Over the course of the day-long meeting, principal investigators demonstrated their phased results in the project progress report with different topics and discussed the project work plan as well as key issues to be approved by Steering Committee.

Through discussions, participants have reached a consensus on the project’s key research issues including the problems and causes of coastal wetland habitat that migratory birds are facing, and realized the significance of enhancing communication and data sharing among project topics.

This Blueprint Project, funded by Lao Niu Foundation, was launched in Beijing, 26 February, 2014. It is implemented by Paulson Institute and corporately undertaken by IGSNRR, BJFU, BNU, CNU, FDU, YIC, etc. It aims at analyzing the status, trends and management problems of China’s coastal wetlands, synthesizing the best practices in U.S. and China, analyzing strategies, policies and priorities in China’s coastal wetlands protection management to provide decision-makers and business management department with practical advices and effective management measures.
