Koshi Basin Programme, China National Review Workshop Held in Beijing
The Koshi Basin Programme (KBP), China National Review Workshop was successfully held in the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research (IGSNRR), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), jointly organized by IGSNRR and the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) on February 11-12, 2015 in Beijing, China,supported by Australian AID.
During the two days session, speakers presented and discussed some burning issues with a variety of points and views on Landslide, Ecosystem, Water induced Hazard, Livelihoods, Glacier, GLOF, Climate Change, Land-use and Land-Cover Change (LUCC) and Soil Erosion in KRB.
The revisit impact pathway was discussed in three different groups: disaster risk reduction (DRR), LUCC and erosion, ecosystem services and livelihood. Some concrete results of "what we are producing, who are the partners, next users, engagement strategy and communication/knowledge product", which is very important task of the workshop are found out. Moreover, the meeting discussed about ICIMOD-IGSNRR further work plan.
Achieving expected outcomes as an improved knowledge on water management issues, disaster risk reduction, LUCC and livelihood promotion, tthe experts updated impact pathway and better understanding of the science-policy nexus and intensification of research and capacity building among the partners and multiple stakeholders. This workshop provided not only essential knowledge but also a great opportunity to share progress, problems and experiences in relevant issues.
The host of this workshop series was the Department of Land Change Science and Bio-geography, IGSNRR. The main rationale of workshop is to share collaborative activities, discuss the KBP progress to-date and enhance the effectiveness of the programme through active participation of key stakeholders, take stock of science outcomes, and generate desirable impacts.
Prof. ZHANG YiLi from IGSNRRt chaired the opening ceremony. Together with Prof. LIU Yi, Deputy Director of IGSNRR, Prof. WU Ning from ICIMOD and Dr. WANG Zhenyu from CAS welcomed all the participants with cheerful welcomes and delivered theirs best wishes to success the programme with further collaboration of IGSNRR, CAS and ICIMOD. Various famous scientists from IGSNRR, IMHE, Peking University, National Natural Science Foundation of China, WWF, MAIRS, China-dialogue and so on, participated the workshop.Download attachments:
