Mike Liddell, Facility Director of Australia Terrestrial Ecosystem Research Network Visits China Ecosystem Research Network

Mr. Mike Liddell, director of the Terrestrial Ecosystem Research Network (TERN) sub-facility the Australian Supersite Network and Principal Investigator of the FNQ Rainforest Supersite based in Far North Queensland, made a visit to the synthesis Research Center, Sub-center of Atmosphere, and Luancheng Agro-Ecosystem Experimental Station of the China Ecosystem Research Network (CERN) from Jan 26-28, 2015,. Mr. Liddell communicated with several scientists from CERN about infrastructure and technical specifications of supersites.

On 26th January, Mr. Liddell made a presentation titled “TERN SuperSites in 2015” at the China Ecological Forum at the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research (IGSNRR). He made a brief overview of the TERN SuperSites activities for 2015, the teething and builds issues which have been encountered as the network boot-strapped into operation and what is on the horizon. He also discussed other TERN facilities in terms of data collection, data flow and data delivery.

TERN supersites were initially established by the federal and state governments in 2009 from a very early assemblage of two demonstrator supersites into a fully operational, continental network with 10 funded supersites in 2014, Mr. Liddell introduced.

On 27th January, Mike Liddell, accompanied by Prof. Xiubo Yu visited Luancheng Agro-Ecosystem Experimental Station of CERN in Hebei Province. They participated in a seminar referencing Agro-Ecosystem Experimental and infrastructure of supersites, organized by Prof. HU,Chunsheng deputy director of the Institute of Genetics and Development Biology of CAS and Prof. SHEN Yanjun, director of Luancheng Agro-Ecosystem Experimental Station. After the seminar, Prof. SHEN Yanjun introduced the monitoring and research facilities of the station.

Afterwards, Mike Liddell visited an observation site of the Chinese Phenology Observation Network in the Summer Palace and the Sub-center of Atmosphere of CERN.
