Prof. Deliang Chen from University of Gothenburg, Sweden visits IGSNRR

At the invitation of Prof. GE Quansheng, Director General of the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research (IGSNRR), Chinese Academy of Science (CAS), on 11 July 2014 Prof. Deliang Chen visited IGSNRR. On this occasion, he reported on the topic ‘Grand Challenges in Earth System Science for Global Sustainability’.

In his presentation, he introduced some hot issues in international globe climate change research. Earth system science for global sustainability is facing grand challenges - Prof. Chen said, inviting all attendees to ask questions and contribute to the discussion.  

Deliang Chen is currently Professor and Assistant Dean for Research of the Faculty of Science at University of Gothenburg, Sweden. He is an internationally renowned climate researcher and he has made  important contributions to the understanding of regional climate changes and water balance, in Sweden and in China. Recently he was appointed lead author of Working Group I on Physical Science Basis for IPCC’s Fifth Assessment Report. He also served as an editor on several international scientific journals. 

More than 50 scholars attended Prof. Chen’s presentation, including Prof. GE Quansheng, Director General of IGSNRR, Prof. WANG Shaoqiang, Assistant Director of IGSNRR, LIU Honghui, Assistant Director of IGSNRR, and Prof. SUN Xiaomin, Deputy Director of the Key Laboratory of Ecosystem Network Observation and Modeling (LENOM) of CAS.
