Prof. HUANG Jikun Newly Elected TWAS Members

TWAS's 24th General Meeting took place in Buenos Aires, Argentina, from 1 to 4 October 2013. More than 300 participants from 60 countries and regions attended the meeting, including scientists, Ministers of Science and Technology and representatives of international organizations.  

TWAS announced the election of 52 new Members on 2 October 2013. The forty-six new Fellows and six Associate Fellows from 19 countries bring the total TWAS Membership to 1115.  

Dr. HUANG Jikun, Professor and Director, Centre for Chinese Agricultural Policy, Institute of Geographical Sciences and Natural Resources Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences was elected as a new TWAS fellow for his outstanding contribution in Social and Economic Sciences. 

HUANG’s papers on the biotech economy have been widely cited. His findings on rural development and poverty alleviation have become the major sources of China’s rural economy information to the global community. He has also developed China’s Agricultural Policy Simulation and Projection Model, (CAPSIM), recognized as a very sophisticated model, it is regularly used in policy analysis. He has won the 2008 Outstanding Contribution Award in Management Science in China, and China’s Agriculture S&T Award in 2007, to cite just two of many.
