GIZ Program Assessment Delegation Visits IGSNRR

On September 22-23, 2011, a four-man delegation from Deutschen Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit(GIZ), which was led by Dr. J?rg Albrecht, visited Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research (IGSNRR), Chinese Academy of Sciences(CAS). The visitors assessed the progress of“Kailash Sacred Landscape Conservation and Cultural Heritage Protection Program”which was performed by IGSNRR, consulted and discussed in opportunities and challenges, ecosystem management and community development in Kailash sacred landscape conservation, put forward suggestions about Kailash sacred landscape ecosystem management which was aiming to deal with climate change.

Prof. LIU Yi, Director of IGSNRR, extended a warm welcome to the foreign guests, introduced the research of IGSNRR in Tibet plateau, appreciated International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development(ICIMOD)to make IGSNRR the node unit, and expressed that IGSNRR would give powerful support to the program and strengthen international cooperation.

Dr. Krishna Prasad Oli, region project coordinator of ICIMOD, expressed thanks for the long-term corporation with IGSNRR,and introduced the cooperation and directions in developing Kailash sacred landscape conservation which was conducted by China, India and Nepal.

During the meeting, Prof. SHI Peili of IGSNRR  introduced the progress in preparation of Kailash Sacred Landscape Conservation Program. GIZ experts consulted and discussed in local demands as well as prior domains with other experts, and put forward the cooperation intention of developing a three-year 1st program.
