IGSNRR and GAC Sign Cooperation Memorandum

On February 18 and 23, Research backbones of "the Comprehensive Scientific Survey in Lancang Rver and Big Shangri-la" project carried on the exchange of cooperative research with Dr Claudia from German Aerospace Centre(GAC)and experts of Hydro and Agro Informatics Institute, Ministry of Sciences and Technology(MST) in Thailand.

Project team principals, according to their respective research fields which include watershed rainfall and temperature, land use, remote sensing data in Mekong river basin, reached a tentative agreement respectively with the two institutes. A cooperation agreement on exchange cultivation of young scientists and students was also reached. These achievements lay a solid foundation for the further development of "the comprehensive scientific survey in Lancang river and big Shangri-la".

"The comprehensive scientific survey in Lancang river and big Shangri-la" project is one of the key basic study projects from National Ministry of Science and Technology undertaken by Institute of Geographic Science and Natural Rresources Research(IGSNRR). This project aims to investigate the background information and dynamic changes in Lancang river region, including water and land use, ecological, social economy, culture and tourism, which provide scientific basis for national strategic decisions. The project is led by IGSNRR, CAS, and more than ten research institutes and universities are involved in the project.

Deputy director of IGSNRR CHENG Shengkui and ZHOU Chenghu attended the meetings.
