The Acer-Reap donation ceremony subjected “break technology barrier and fulfill dreams” has been held in Beijing by Rural Education Action Project(REAP) of Centre for Chinese Agricultural Policy(CCAP),Chinese academy of sciences(CAS), together with Acer on December 9th,2010. Professor ZHANG Linxiu, the Deputy Director of CCAP, Professor Scott Rozelle of Stanford University, and Mr. CHEN Jinggong, the head of the human resources and administrative department of Acer did attend the donation ceremony. As the chief executive of REAP in China, Professor ZHANG Linxiu hosted the donation ceremony.

After years of research on rural education, researchers of CCAP found that the low level of informationization of rural compulsory education has been a wide education gap for poor rural student, following inadequate nutrition and Anemia, insufficient early childhood education, and expensive tuition for after- compulsory-education. Moreover, The National Development and Reform Committee stressed the importance of educational informationization in the twelfth five years plan in China. In order to explore how to implement educational informationization project in poor rural areas, an action project named “computer assisted learning to improve study performance” has officially launched and started randomized interventions at some of the migrant schools in Beijing since April of 2010, and the experiment results demonstrate that the education quality can feasibly be improved by means of computer assisted learning project. The two hundred sets of computer donated by Acer will be used to support REAP “computer assisted learning Chinese language” project in Qinghai minority nationality regions. If this kind of assisted learning method could be widely spread, at least one thousand million children in poor rural areas of China will benefit from it, which could indeed improve their education conditions.

In addition to the long-term cooperative research institutions, educational organizations and social charities, the donation ceremony has attracted attention of more than 10 news media. All the representatives participated in the discussion and made a suggestion on operation of REAP’s projects. The REAP team really hope to draw more attention of enterprises and personals to participate in this social public activities, and promote the construction of rural educational informationization through the publicity, which can narrow the informationization gap between rural and urban areas for real.
