2nd Student Capacity Building Workshop on Environmental Change and Health Security in Beijing-Tianjin Urban Area holds in IGSNRR

As part of this larger project International Scientific and Student Capacity Building Workshops,the 2nd Student Capacity Building Workshop “Environmental Change and Health Security in Beijing-Tianjin Urban Area” was held in the Institute of Geographic Science and Natural Resources Research (IGSNRR) on October 13-16, 2010.

This workshop is conducted annually at (IGSNRR), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), Beijing, hosted by Prof. WANG Wuyi, IGSNRR in collaboration with Germany (Foreign Principal Investigator).

39 Master’s and PhD students, 30 from China and 9 International students had been selected to participate in the scientific workshop, who come from Germany, Canada, Russia, India and China.

The workshop focuses on three objects. The first is to provide intensive and advanced training to Master′s and PhD students through a series of lectures and participatory exercises that give the trainees a better understanding of theoretical and methodological issues related to environmental change and health risks affecting vulnerable populations.

The second is to upgrade the trainees’ skills required to advance their research careers successfully with sessions on peer-reviewed manuscript and research proposal writing.

The third is familiarizing trainees with international research programmes such as IHDP, IGU and GECHH.
