Sino-US Workshop on Remediation of Contaminated Land and Groundwater Held in Beijing
“Sino-US Workshop on Remediation of Contaminated Land and Groundwater” was held in Beijing in April 2010, co-sponsored by the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research (IGSNRR), Chinese Academy of Sciences and Beijing Municipal Science & Technology Commission
More than eighty experts and delegates from Peking University, Chinese Research Academy of Environmental Sciences, Shanxi University, South China Institute of Environmental Sciences, MEP, Dalian University of Technology and South China University of Technology and the National Risk Management Research Laboratory of the USA (NRMRL) attended the meeting.
During the meeting, Dr. LIAO Xiaoyong, the director of Science &Technology innovation union for contaminated site remediation, IGSNRR, gave a welcoming speech. He pointed out that one of the urgent tasks is to establish exchanging platform of experts and scholars and business both home and abroad, to promote the development of the contaminated land remediation industry, to strengthen the exchange of management policy, regulations, standards, and remediation technology among government departments in different countries. It is also an important responsibility of the union. Afterwards, four senior experts from NRMRL gave lectures on the contaminated land and groundwater remediation. The delegates exchanged and shared their experience in contaminated land remediation with foreign experts. IGSNRR and NRMRL reach preliminary agreements, and will cooperate in the technology research, information sharing and staff training in the future.

Recognized as a national leader in scientific and engineering expertise and capability, NRMRL’s research directly supports national priorities to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve air quality, manage chemical risks, clean up hazardous waste sites, and protect America's water.
