German forestry experts visit Qianyanzhou Experimental Station

February 14-15, seven forestry experts visit Qianyanzhou experimental station companied by Dr.shaoqiang, Dr.feng lu and Dr.huiming wang (the head of the station).The guests are renowned scientist Dr. Christoph Kleinn, Dr.Ralph Mitloehner , Dr.Lutz Fehrmann and Dr.Haijun Yang all from Goettingen University (Germany),Dr.Matthias Seebauer from Vryburg University (Germany) ,Dr.Rainer Koepsell from Forest Planning Institute of Lower Saxony(Germany)and Dr. Timm Tennigkeit from the Center for Mountain Ecosystem Studies (China)respectively.

On February 14th, the experts visit Jinggang Mountain Natural Reserve. First they inspect the typical subtropical evergreen broad-leaved forest and learn about the natural condition, the development history, structure, composition, biomass and productivity of forest, then the guests with interest visit the characteristics Phyllostachys pubescens forest of subtropical region.

February 15, the experts arrive Qianyanzhou Station, visit the forest hydrological process comprehensive observation site, the plantation nutrition control experiment site, the forest freezing hazard observation site, as well as the flux observation tower and precipitation transfer instruments. Dr. Huimin Wang gives an introduction about the station and on-going projects and research achievement.

These foreign experts are mainly forestry expert, they are impressed by station’s research equipment and on-going research project and research achievement, and all agree it is correct and feasible by choosing Plantation transformation and function improvement as a major research direction of the station. Guests are very interested in the plantation. They have an extensively discussion with station’s scientists on the plantation drawbacks, the theory and techniques application of transformation methods of plantation. By discussion, our scientists learned the situation on the forest resources management and the advanced ′Close to Nature Forest′ Management Mode in German, which have an important guide and reference on the plantations transformation in China. The two sides agree that in the future they will use Qianyanzhou Experimental Station as a research base to conduct collaborative research in the plantation.
