On January 10^th -11^th, 2009, the Second Annual Joint Conference hosted by the Chinese National Committee(CNC) for the World Climate Research Programme(CNC-WCRP), the Chinese National Committee for the International Geosphere-Biosphere Programme(CNC-IGBP), the Chinese National Committee for the International Human Dimensions Programme on Global Environmental Change (CNC-IHDP) and the Chinese National Committee for DIVERSITAS was held in Foreign Experts Hotel, Beijing, China. The conference focused on Global Climate Change and Natural Disaster—in face of Challenges of Science and Technology and Society. More than two hundred experts and scholars participated to the conference and to discussed some topics relating to Mechanism and Facts, Extreme Events and Risk Society of the Global Warming and the Estimation, Reduction, Adaptation, and Sustainable Development of the Global Change, etc.

During the conference, experts and scholars from institutes, universities, the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People of Republic of China, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the National Natural Scientific Foundation and China Meteorological Administration, etc. communicated with each other in different disciplines of global climate change research fields.

Besides, the four CNC Committees convened respectively work session, summarized the work experiences and achievement in 2008, and put forward task conceits in 2009. The CNC-IGBP and the CNC-WCRP had elected for exchanging fall due and voted in the 6^th and the 4^th Committee of the Whole and Standing Committee, respectively.
