The Geographical Society of China Successful Biding for 33rd International Geographical Congress

The 31st International Geographical Congress (IGC) was held in Tunis from 12 to 15 August, 2008. More than 1000 geographical scholars attended the academic meeting. More than 60 Chinese participants organized by the Geographical Society of China (GSC), including Prof. Dadao LU, President of GSC, Prof. Changming LIU, Former Vice President of IGU, Prof. Ying WANG, Member of Executive Committee of International Association of Geomorphologists (IAG), Prof. Dahe QIN, Vice President of IGU, President of Chinese Meteorological Society took part in the congress.

 

During the congress, IGU convened XXII General Assembly with more than 80 representatives, who are from more than 40 countries and regions. A group of geographers of GSC, Prof. Wuyi WANG, Chairman of the GSC Committee for IGU, Prof.Chenghu ZHOU, Deputy Director of Institute of Geographic Sciences and Resources Research (IGSNRR) under CAS, and Prof. Guoyou ZHANG, General Secretary of GSC participated the meeting. Supported by Chinese Association for Science and Technology and IGSNRR, GSC and Chinese geographers made many efforts to bid for the International Geographical Congress. By secret ballot of representatives present in the meeting, China was elected successfully for host country of the 33rd IGC in 2016.
