CAS is to take part in the reconstruction planning for the quake affected areas, being in charge of the evaluation of the carrying capacities of the local environment and resources.

A CAS meeting for the arrangement and coordination in this aspect was held on 29 May. Chaired by CAS Vice President DING Zhongli, the meeting brought together leaders and experts from five CAS institutes, namely, Institute of Geographical Sciences and Natural Resources Research (IGSNRR), Institute of Remote Sensing Applications, Research Center for Eco-Environment Sciences, Institute of Geology and Geophysics, and the Center of Earth Observation and Digital Earth. Also at the meeting, CAS established an expert team for the reconstruction of the quake-hit areas, which is headed by Prof. FAN Jie from IGSNRR.
