Russia-Chinese Scientific Forum on Natural Resources, Environment Protection and Sustainable Development Held in Moscow Russia

Russia-Chinese Scientific Forum on the Top Level was held from September 17th to 20th in Moscow, Russia. This forum focused on the topic of Natural Resources, Environment Protection and Sustainable Development. More than 50 scientists from 20 institutes of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Russia Academy of Sciences took part in the forum. Prof. Bai Chunli, Executive Vice President of CAS, participated in the conference and made a welcome address. Prof. Ouyang Hua, Zhuang Dafang, Dong Suocheng, and Dr. Wang Juanle from Institute of Geographical Sciences and Natural Resources Research, CAS took part in the forum. Prof. Ouyang Hua was invited to co-chair the meeting.

There were 3 themes in this scientific forum, i.e., Global Changes Study; Monitoring and Prediction of Environment and Natural Disasters; Ecological Policy, Environment Protection and Sustainable Development. Surrounding these themes, both sides from CAS and RAS introduced their research progress and fruits based on their research activities respectively.

Section of “Global Changes Study” included the research fields on Terrestrial Ecosystem Carbon Cycle, global climate change participation model, ground water management and its response to global change, west Pacific Ocean ancient environment change research, sediment basin and petroleum & natural gas resources, etc.

Section of “Monitoring and Prediction of Environment and Natural Disasters” included the research fields on Water ecosystem and water pollution, flood disaster evaluation, urban ground water monitoring and management, field ecosystem monitoring, ecosystem problem of engineering in desert, forest fire disaster, data sharing and cooperation research network, etc.

Section of “Ecological Policy, Environment Protection and Sustainable Development” included the research fields on ecosystem rebuilding in drought and desert area, natural resources management in Siberian area, ground water cycle, sustainable development policy of typical area in China and Russia, etc.

This forum provided an exchange platform for CAS and RAS. Through the academic reports and discussion in 2 days meeting, Scientists in both sides were familiar with each other, and knew the research progress of their peers in near neighbor countries. In a word, this forum would enhance the cooperation for both sides in the near future.
