A delegation led by Professor Lars Gottschalk Visits IGSNRR

At the invitation of Prof. Jun Xia, a delegation led by Prof. Lars Gottschalk, the academician member of Norwegian Academy of Sciences, and also of the Royal Physiographic Society in Sweden, visited IGSNRR and the Center for Water Resources Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences. The delegation includes Prof. Irina Krasovskaia from Department of Geosciences of Oslo University in Norway, Dr. GuSong Ruan, NVE-Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate. The activity will play an important role in further research cooperations between IGSNRR, Chinese Academy of Sciences and Oslo University in Norway.

The welcome meeting was held on November 14, 2007, and convened by Dr. Ying Sun, deputy director of Scientific Sponsoring Department, Institute of Geographic Science and Natural Resources Research, CAS. Firstly, Prof Hua Ouyang, deputy director, Institute of Geographic Science and Natural Resources Research, CAS, made a welcome speech. Then Prof. Lars Gottschalk made a research presentation on “Mapping Hydrological Statistics–a hydrostochastic approach”. Prof. Irina Gottschalk made a speech on “Minimum Acceptable Flow(MAF)”.After the meeting, the delegation visited Key Laboratory of Water cycle and Related Land Surface Processes and attended several seminars with researchers and students in the Lab. A two-day field excursion was organized to the Hai River Basin, a potential cooperative research area. A preliminary cooperation intention has been reached between two parties on ecological water demand, parameter calibration of hydrological model and mapping hydrological statistics.

The activities exchanged the latest research progress and results on the hydrological modeling and ecological water demand. This is a good beginning for the cooperation between IGSNRRCAS and the Oslo University in Norway.
