The Second Symposium of China-Australia Center on Water Resources Research in University of Melborne

The second symposium of China-Australia Center on Water Resources Research was held in University of Melborne on 20-28 May, 2007. The Chinese delegations including: Academician Liu Changming (Director, Committee of Experts, Center for Water Resouorces Research, CAS), Prof. Xia Jun (Director, China-Australia Center on Water Resources Research), Prof. Jia Shaofeng (Deputy Director, Center for Water Resouorces Research, CAS), Prof. Song Xianfang (Deputy Director, Key Laboratory of Water Cycle and Related Land Surface Processes, CAS) and Prof. Li Baoguo (China Agriculture University).

The Topic of this Symposium is “Water, Energy and Climate Change in Future”. Experts from China and Australia had warm discussion on climate/land use change, water environment protection, health of river, valley management and energy law. Academician Liu Changming, Prof. Li Baoguo, Prof. Jia Shaofeng and Prof. Song Xianfang presided the report respectively. Prof Xia Jun reported the work achieved of China-Australia Center on Water Resources Research in the last years.

On the coming workshop of China-Australia Center on Water Resources Research, the following forms of cooperation were discussed:
1.Proposals were advanced about the future work of international programme “Improving water security & agri-environmental sustainability in the North China Plain and the Murray-Darling Basin”;
2.The joint international fundings and applications in the coming two years.
3.Exchanges of post doctors and graduate students, and the communion of visit scholars.

After the symposium, the delegations visited the open mine and firepower house of Loy Yang, the Blue Rock reservoir and waterpower plant of Southern Rural Water.
