Forum for Water Problem——the First Lecture in 2020
Topic: Advancing Precipitation Prediction using a Composite of Models and Data
Speaker: Dr. PAN Baoxiang
Brief introduction to the report:
Advances in numerical weather forecasts have brought forward significant societal benefits and raised expectations for higher resolution, more accurate, and longer predictions.
Despite the consistent progresses achieved, precipitation prediction remains a less satisfyingly tackled task, with skills falling far behind those of other atmospheric variables, such as pressure, temperature, moisture, and wind speed. This dissertation serves as an inspection of prediction capacity and an exploration of predictability for the precipitation process, with a particular focus on the West Coast of the United States.
