Introduction to the speaker
Professor Charles Choguill is an economist by training with extensive experience in urban and regional planning and has been involved with urban planning in China since 1986. He has taught at Harvard University, the University of Sheffield in the UK (where he was a Professor, Head of Department of Town and Regional Planning, Director of the University’s Centre for Development Planning Studies and is Professor Emeritus), at the University of Illinois, at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Management (RMIT) University and University of Melbourne in Australia, at King Saudi University in Saudi Arabia.
He has also had extensive consulting and advisory experience with a number of national and international institutions. He has advised on airport issues in Brazil, on institutional development issues in the Sudan and the Philippines, on urban priority issues on Malaysia, on urban transportation issues in Turkey, on housing policy in South Africa, on higher educational issues in Saudi Arabia, on new town planning in Malaysia, on urban development in Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia, on infrastructure issues in Indonesia, on urban policy issues in the Philippines and China, and on tourism development in Saudi Arabia.
