A joint UNEP and NDRC global project “Enhancing Capacity, Knowledge and Technology Support to Build Climate Resilience of Vulnerable Developing Countries” funded through GEF’s Special Climate Change Fund (GEF-SCCF) was officially launched in April 2013 in Beijing, China. This project will build resilience in vulnerable developing countries using an ecosystem based adaptation (EBA) by increasing institutional capacity, mobilizing knowledge and transferring appropriate best-practice adaptation technologies. The project activities will cover Africa and Asia-Pacific at regional level and pilot EBA approaches in three countries; Mauritania, Nepal and Seychelles, representing dryland, mountain and coastal ecosystems respectively. The project is considered as the “first mover” in catalyzing global and regional collaborations on Ecosystem Based Adaptation under the GEF guidelines, in particular within the framework of South-South Cooperation. 

The project is also funded in collaboration with the National Development and Reform Commission of China (NDRC), the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) as well as other co-financing from various partners including those from the pilot countries. The project will be mainly executed by the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IGSNRR, CAS). 

Now the project Management Unit announces the 8 project international consultant positions for open competition. The 8 positions include the International Coastal Adaption Specialist, International Dryland Adaption Specialist, International Mountain Adaption Specialist, International Natural Resource Economist, International Institution Planning Specialist, International Education Specialist, International Communication Specialist, and International M&E Specialist.
