International Training Course on ILMS is Open in IGSNRR

May 30 - June 3, 2011

Funded by German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), led by Prof. Wolfgang-Albert Flügel,Friedrich-Schiller-University (FSU), Jena,a two year international project from 2010 to 2012, in name of Interdisciplinary network for holistic environment system analysis, ecosystem services, integrated modelling and sustainable resources management (INNO-ASIA), will hold an International Training Course on Integrated Land Management System (ILMS) in Institute of Geographical Sciences and Natural Resources Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IGSNRR, CAS), China on May 30 - June 3, 2011.

The aim of the interdisciplinary network INNO-ASIA is to establish a German-Asian-Pacific network for the development of integrated methods related to landscape and environment system analysis with focal point on climate change impacts on sustainable management of landscape resources and the use of ecosystem services. This training course is one of first activities of the project. Prof. Suxia Liu at IGSNRR, CAS is one of the international cooperative partners of the project. The project was initiated in February, 2011. Before this training courses, IGSNRR, CAS has hold four international training courses on the topic of integrated water resources management (INWAMA), including INWAMA 2006, INWAMA2007, Integrated Water Resources Management/Integrated River Basin Management (IWRM/IRBM) 2009 and IWRM/IRBM 2010, aided by European Union(EU) Asia-link project and EU River Basin Management Program (RBMP) respectively.

During the coming training course in this summer Dipl.-Geogr. Holm Kipka from FSU will lead a close touch to the different software components of ILMS including a brief insight into the scientific theory that is behind the different modules. Holm will give a brief training on at least three ILMS components: (1) River Basin Information System (RBIS), (2) GRASS GIS tool for HRU-delineation and (3) J2000 hydrological model.

As this training is exactly what is required to explore the full potential of the system, the course will mainly be for providing training for researchers that will apply the ILMS software package in the projects of Chinese institutions. For those researchers who are interested in using ILMS in their research, please contact Prof. Suxia LIU at liusx@igsnrr.ac.cn.
