Postdoctoral Research Fellow Recruitment for 2011 in IEMP
International Ecosystem Management Partnership(IEMP)is co-sponsored by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), and aims to promote research and managementof ecosystem and biodiversity and their integration into emerging emphasis on green economy in developing countries. The mandates of IEMP include: supporting developing countries for decision-making on ecosystem management through monitoring and assessment; enhancing knowledge and information sharing and awareness raising; promoting technology transfer and demonstration for ecological engineering and eco-industry development; through the above initiatives and associated training programmes, IEMP will increase the ecosystem management capacity of policy makers, scientists and practitioners in developing countries, such as capacity to study and manage ecosystems as carbon sources or sinks. IEMP is currently housed in Institute of Geographical Sciences and Natural Resources Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences, in Beijing, China.
IEMP will provide support to capacity building for African countries, including piloting and feasibility study for the establishment of an Africa Ecosystem Research Network and related training activities on ecosystem management and biodiversity etc; field surveys and desk-based analysis on global ecosystem management, monitoring and research capacity.
Four postdoctoral research fellow vacancy in IEMP are open for application now, with its research fields in Ecosystem Monitoring and Assessment, Ecosystem Service Evaluation, Knowledge Hub for the Ecosystem Management. All the recruited post doctors will be paid and supported according the CAS rules, and be invited to join the work of IEMP full time for two years, including study tour at aboard and fully involved in the projects. Major working place will be in Institute of Geographical Sciences and Natural Resources Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing, China.
The preferred candidate will minimum have a PhD degree or equivalent doctorate in relevant discipline, good English capability in reading, writing and communication; healthy and strong team work attitude. Candidate with following backgrounds will add advantage (1) work or study experiences in foreign universities and institutes,(2) background in Economics,(3) experiences in long term ecological field stations.

Brief Introduction of Supervisor
Dr. Jian Liu is the Director of UNEP International Ecosystem Management Partnership (IEMP) since July 2010. Prior to this appointment, he served as the Chief of UNEP Climate Change Adaptation Unitsince January 2008 and the Deputy Secretary of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) since June 2005. His earlier posts include Deputy Director General of the Bureau of Resources and Environment, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Director of the Chinese Ecosystem Research Network (CERN), and Manager of Environment Program of the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD). Dr. Xiubo Yu is the Coordinator of IEMP Monitoring and Capacity Building Programme (Part time). He is also the Secretary General of the Scientific Committee of Chinese Ecosystem Research Network (CERN), and associate professor in Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences. He has 20 years’ experience in integrated river basin management, and eco-environment economics and policies, as well as long term ecological monitoring & research and capacity development including serving as Director of Freshwater and Marine Programme of WWF China. Dr. Linxiu Zhang is the Coordinator of IEMP Science for Policy Programme (Part time). She is Professor of economics and deputy director of the Center for Chinese Agricultural Policy (CCAP) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. She obtained her PhD from University of Reading in England. For the last 26 years, most of her research concentrates on policy relevant studies on agricultural and rural development in China, including public investment in agriculture and its impact on growth, poverty and inequality, poverty and environmental dynamics, and integrated resource management at community level, community governance and public goods investments, the New Cooperative Medical System, the economics of education. Dr. Bingfang Wu is the Coordinator of the IEMP Integrated Knowledge Management Programme (Part time). He is a professor of water resources and remote sensing application, and director of division for Agriculture and Ecology in the Institute of Remote Sensing Application, Chinese Academy of Sciences. He also serves as director of the ‘Information Center of Ecological and Environmental Monitoring Network for the Three Gorges Project’. He got his PhD degree in Tsinghua University, also has 4-years work experiences in Eurosense Belfotop N.V. Belgium in Brussels. He has published more than 100 papers.
