The Geographical Society of China (GSC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Association of American Geographers (AAG) to intensify cooperation in geographical science in New York on February 26, 2012. LIU Yanhua, President of GSC and Audrey Kobayashi, President of AAG signed the MoU as representatives from both sides.　

The MoU confirmed collaborative projects and programs that encompass geographic research, specialty scientific meetings, larger international conferences, and academic exchanges. Both sides also agreed to work in collaboration to advance international projects of mutual interest by means of joint research, educational exchanges, technology transfer and collaborative publication.

GSC, founded in Tianjin in 1909, is comprised of more than 20,000 members, who are geographical workers from research institutes, colleges and universities, middle schools and governmental agencies. It aims at promoting the scientific research, encouraging the full participation of its members and geographers across the country, popularizing national geographical knowledge, and training qualified professionals.

AAG, a nonprofit scientific and educational society founded in 1904, has contributed to the advancement of geography. Its members share interests in the theory, methods, and practice of geography through AAG's Annual Meeting, two scholarly journals and the monthly AAG Newsletter.

The GSC-AAG Liaison and Coordination Committee has been established to help coordinate, sustain, and further develop and expand these collaborations.
