A Summit Forum of GIS’s Change and Future Held in Beijing

A summit forum of GIS’s Change and Future was held in China National Convention Center on September 9, 2016. More than 300 experts and technicians attended the forum. Prof. LU Feng, from State Key Laboratory of Resources and Environmental Information System (LREIS) under the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), hosted the conference.

At the invitation of LREIS, Mr. Jack Dangermond, president of Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI), made a presentation on GIS’s development, application model and changing condition.

Mr. Jack Dangermond presented that GIS could provide stronger geographic information relating to background for solving some challenges of globe climate change, natural hazards and environmental pollution. He said that Smart GIS would be capable of connecting everyone and integrating everything. It enabled real time to engage in geographical photos, advancing spatial analysis as well others.

After the report, Prof. CHEN Jun, from the National Geomatics Center of China, Prof. DANG Anrong, school of architecture, Tsinghua University, Prof. John Wilson, talent of“Qianren Program”of the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research (IGSNRR), CAS, with Mr. Jack Dangermond had a dialogue and made a discussion on GIS’s future development.

Jack Dangermond is recognized as a pioneer in spatial analysis methods and one of the founding fathers of GIS technology. He is also considered to be one of the most influential people in GIS.
