Leshan-Xichang Vicissitudes on the Way

The Shunshui River is a branch river runs along the left bank of Daduhe River, and a diastrophic canyonalong with developed northwest fault belts. The road is so rugged that one has to make his way on the winding mountain road that is built on the steep valley wall. The Lesan - Xichang Road was built after liberation, its former, the Original Lesan - Xichang Road was even more formidable. It was built during the World War II for delivering anti-japanese military materials. Hundreds of thousands of laborers were mobilized to build the road, among whom are more than ten thousand victims lost their lives. The story is a moving page in the tragic event in the Anti-Japanese War.

 

Today, the Chengdu-Kunming Railway Line by the Daduhe River (see the illustration), and was built after liberation, and which traverses Sichuan and Yunnan Provinces, also pass through steep rocks on sides. It is featured by its endless tunnels and bridges, and it's well-known for its formidable construction.
